White meets the Modern Benoni by fianchettoing the king's bishop, blunting Black's long-diagonal bishop and taking the sting out of the usual …b5 and …f5 breaks. A calm, positional anti-Benoni that plays for a small, durable edge rather than a tactical brawl.

A sharper cousin of the main Budapest Gambit: instead of recapturing on e5, Black plants a knight on e4 immediately, betting everything on quick piece play against White's centre. Rare, provocative, and dangerous if White doesn't know the specific ideas.

White fianchettoes the queen's bishop on move one, aiming it at the long diagonal before committing any central pawn. Flexible and almost entirely transposable, it lets White reach a huge range of structures while dodging nearly all mainstream 1.e4 and 1.d4 theory.

Black mirrors White's flank move, leading to rich, flexible middlegames that can resemble a reversed Sicilian with an extra tempo for White. Enormously flexible for both sides — the same first move leads to hedgehog structures, four-knights symmetry, or a fight for a favourable central break.
