- 1.b3 and Bb2 pressure e5 and the long dark diagonal without committing central pawns.
- White often adds e3, Nf3, c4 and pieces before deciding on a central break.
- Black should grab the centre with …e5 and …d5 and develop naturally to blunt the b2-bishop.
