    Easier to find your way around

    • Instant search on the glossary and the openings guide — type to filter 50 terms or 22 openings on the spot.
    • A first-run welcome points new players at Play, Puzzles and the Coach, then gets out of the way.
    • First-time tips on every feature page, breadcrumbs on the guides, and a keyboard-shortcuts sheet you can open from the command bar.
    • Two more classics in Famous Games — Byrne–Fischer’s ‘Game of the Century’ and Réti–Tartakower — plus four more glossary terms and a new opening article.
    • Under the hood: a proper chess social-share card, and working RSS and JSON blog feeds.
  2. Coach21 July 2026

    A calmer coach and a bigger openings library

    • The Coach now greets you by time of day with a typed-out welcome and a blinking cursor — and a tap-to-open ‘?’ explains what your streak actually tracks.
    • Two more openings — the Scandinavian and the Pirc — join the reference, each with its own plain-English landing page.
    • A new article, ‘A simple checklist to run before every move’, on the four questions that stop most blunders.
    • New Settings tools to export everything saved in this browser as a JSON file, or clear it from this device.
    • A chess-themed offline screen so a dropped connection never feels broken.

    Famous games you can play through

    • A new Famous Games section: step move-by-move through Morphy’s Opera Game, the Immortal, Légal’s Mate and the Evergreen Game, with notes at the key moments.
    • The last move now shows as a gold arrow on the board, and coordinates fade in on hover.
    • Daily-goal rings on the Coach: Play one game, solve three puzzles, drill one line.

    A board that finally looks the part

    • Rebuilt the board and pieces: a clean tournament-green default theme, larger pieces that fill the square, and crisp outlines so white and black read clearly on every square — on desktop and mobile.
    • Selectable board themes with a live preview, plus a Focus mode that hides the chrome and centres the board (Shift+F).
    • Result overlay on game end with rematch and analyse buttons.
