Flank openings
Réti Opening
1.Nf3ECO A04–A09
Hypermodern development first, central commitment later. White invites Black to occupy the centre, then undermines it with c4 and a fianchetto. Flexible and hard to prepare against.
Key ideas
- 1.Nf3 develops and keeps every central option open.
- White typically follows with c4, g3 and Bg2, attacking the centre from afar.
- Excellent for avoiding an opponent's preparation and reaching positions on your terms.
