Key ideas
- …e6 and …Be7 build a durable defence of d5; Black frees the game with a timely …dxc4 and …c5 (or …e5).
- The problem bishop on c8 is developed via …b6/…Bb7 or after …dxc4 and …Nd7–…c5.
- White plays for the minority attack (b4–b5) on the queenside; Black seeks central or kingside counterplay.
