Grand Prix Attack
1.e4 c5 2.Nc3 Nc6 3.f4ECO B23
A direct anti-Sicilian: White plays f4, Nf3 and Bb5/Bc4 to blast open the f-file and attack Black's king. Aggressive, easy to learn, and a nightmare for the unprepared.
Key ideas
- f4 and Nf3 prepare a kingside pawn storm; Bb5xc6 fixes Black's structure before the attack.
- White often castles short and throws the f- and g-pawns forward with the queen and rook swinging over.
- Black must strike in the centre with …d5 or complete development fast, or be overrun.
Who it suits
Attackers who want a low-theory, high-aggression weapon against the Sicilian.
